Natascha Engel MP gives distinguished awards to local volunteers
Local MP Natascha Engel joined in a celebration of local volunteers when she was invited to present awards at Chesterfield Volunteer Centre’s AGM and Presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award on Friday 9 November 2012.
Natascha spoke before the presentations about the importance of local volunteers “who tirelessly give, give and give some more.” She reflected on “How day to day volunteering can often be thankless but has a huge personal reward for the individual.” She added that “…the spirit of the local volunteer was important and helped to keep small communities together.”
Dawn Fletcher of Chesterfield Care Group arrived just in time to receive her Third Place award. She told Natascha “She had wanted to ensure all the lunchtime meals had been served before leaving and she very nearly did not make the celebration.” Everyone at the presentation agreed that this summed up the role of the volunteer.
Second Place was presented to Marie Palmer of Buddy Plus Mentoring Project who was described as a dedicated volunteer with over 300 hours of direct 1 to 1 contact time with young people. Natascha presented the First Place and Volunteer of the Year Award to Nikki Murray of Chesterfield Credit Union who was described as an inspiration to volunteers.
