Natascha blasts County Council for incinerator decision delay

 

 

Natascha Engel has blasted Conservative controlled Derbyshire County Council for again postponing a decision on the waste incinerator planned for Dunston.

A planning meeting had been due to take place in February to decide whether or not to proceed. However yet again the County Council deferred the decision, leaving local people with no idea when a final decision may be made and prolonging the wait for thousands of people who have objected to the plan. As an election period approaches it is unlikely a decision will now be made before the summer unless the council schedules the decision for March. It is over a year since the plans were first put forward.

Natascha has backed local people opposing the plans. She has submitted her own objections stating that such a facility should not be built so near to thousands of homes and many schools.

She has also been collecting signatures for a petition opposing the plans which will be handed to the County Council and already has thousands of names.

Natascha said:

“This delay by the Tory County Council is just unacceptable. Leaving local people with no idea what is going to happen is simply  wrong, They must not delay the process any longer as to do so would mean waiting until after the election. What are they waiting for?

“I have opposed these plans because I do not think we should be building an incinerator so near thousands of homes. However what the delay does is give me more time to collect signatures to oppose the plans. If you have not yet signed up click here.
